Western Lowland Gorilla (Critically Endangered) Gorillas are the largest of the primates and Western lowland gorillas are the smallest of the four sub-species of gorilla. Western lowland gorillas are native to Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, and can still be found in parts of Equatorial Guinea. Sadly, Western lowland gorillas are critically endangered, and humans are the primary threat to their survival. Gorilla populations in the wild continue to be impacted by the illegal pet trade, illegal hunting, and mining for charcoal and coltan.
